Mexican Boxer Dies After Knockout Punch

Oscar Gonzalez
One of the most exciting things in the fast-paced sport of boxing is the knockout or K.O. for short. In this case the exciting event went terribly wrong. On  February 3, 2014, featherweight Mexican boxer Oscar Gonzales nicknamed "Fantasma",  suffered a massive brain injury in the 10th-round knockout loss to Jesus Galicia, at the Foro Polanco in Mexico City. Oscar died 2 days later. Oscar was only 23 years of age.
In this fight Oscar was the favorite boxer among the fans but he was trailing on the leader boards against his opponent Jesus Galicia. It was a rough fight and Galicia was landing unanswered punch combinations. Gonzales was getting rocked by every punch that he got hit with and he was visibly fading. He tried to clinch onto Galicia but the referee broke them up. Oscar staggered to one of the corners and spit out his mouthpiece. The referee waived the match over. Moments later a medical team surrounded Gonzales; he seemed to be having a seizure. He was given oxygen and put into a neck brace. He died that night. Fox Deportes replayed the entire fight.

My reaction: My initial reaction is that it was crazy. I never thought that something like this could happen to someone in a boxing match. Something like this is always an unpredictable event. When something as exciting as a knock out punch ends up being as tragic as it did in this case.

biggest drug cartel busted in Mexico

The biggest drug lord in the world was captured in Mazatlan, Mexico when he was in a condo . He is in the DEA most wanted list and a godfather to most of the higher cartels. After he escaped in 2001 in a Mexican prison, he escaped through a laondrey truck. After that, he powers in  growth of drugs grew over billion dollars and is #63 powerful person in the world. now with the help of Mexican and US military had caught him, he is being trial in Mexico and will be moved in a into a Maximum prison here in the US.

my reaction: i thought he wont ever gonna get caught. since he own most of the territory in mexico, loved by his people, and can do almost what ever he wants. its pretty huge catching a legendary drug lord that is is wanted all over the world and the Mexican and  US marine catch  him with out putting a fight.

Syrian forces 'kill many rebels' in Eastern Ghouta

My reaction: Why are they calling this a 'well organized ambush" at the cost of over 70+ lives.

According to the article, the Syrian government ambushed and killed a large number of rebel forces in the eastern part of the capital.  After the ambush, the Syrian state media says that a total 175 people were killed in the ambush, but the UK based Syrian observatory for human rights says that 70 people were killed pm the ambush.  The Syrian government says that the total number of people killed was around 3,000 ever since the fighting broke out on January 3rd.

NHL Players Still Not Guaranteed To Lace Up In 2018 Olmpics

NHL players play a huge part of hockey in the winter Olympics. Of Canada's gold metal winning team this year, all players were from the NHL. Of team Sweden's silver winning team, all players but one were from the NHL. And USA's entire roster was also made up entirely of NHL players. So without NHL players participating, who knows who may have won the gold. That is what may happen in 2018. Because of injuries and fatigue, NHL players may not participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. The reason players get so tired is because when the Olympics end, players will have to travel from South Korea back to North America and play a game within 2 or 3 days. A perfect example of an injury would be the New York Islander's star center, John Tavares, who suffered a torn MCL at the Olympics, and will be out for the remainder of the season. He is currently leading the Islanders in points, he is the captain of the Islanders, and is one of the most skilled players in the league. And with the New York Islanders competing for a playoff position, this injury could potentially ruin their season. It is for reasons such as this that the NHLPA may decide to not allow NHL players to go to the 2018 Olympics.

My Reaction: I think that it is a very tough decision to make. The Olympics are a very important event, and the best players in the world are supposed to compete there. However, the NHL and teams in the NHL can't afford to loose players like John Tavares. I think that the players will end up going to South Korea in 2018 though. I believe that because like I said before, the best players in the world are supposed to compete in the Olympics, and that would not be the case if NHL players did not participate.

Canada beats Sweden 3-0 for Olympic hockey gold

Canada has really had a great run in this years Olympics. Only allowing 3 goals between six wins while participating in this years Olympics. They haven't lost a single game this whole time going into the gold medal game against Sweden.  Honestly they have been unstoppable, not allowing teams to score in long periods of time. In fact they held one team without scoring for  164 minutes or more. If your doing that then you have to be and obvious choice for the gold.

The funny thing is coming into this match up, Sweden was also undefeated. But the Canadians made history by becoming the first team to go without a single lost in the Olympic tournament. Well with key injuries in the Sweden lineup with three of their star centers out. Canada took advantage, with scores from their best two centers. Which basically sealed the deal on this years winner of the 2014 Olympic hockey gold.

My Reaction: I honestly had a strange feeling that Canada was going to win it all this year, and they didn't disappoint. With the way they started out the Olympics i knew that this was going to be their year. I'm glad that they won. I still love America but i'm glad they won instead of Sweden. Sweden would've had a chance if they didn't have key injuries.

Twin suicide attack in Beirut kills four

My Reaction: They know who has been bombing, so can't they find the people responsible?

According to the article, this is not the first bombing, but the latest one in a series.  The article also says that the people responsible for the bombing are the Shia Islamist.  The Radical Sunni military says that they will continue to follow the Shia Islamist movement's strongholds.  They also have the help from the Iran military, so it's only a matter of time before the Shia are caught.

Ukraine Issues Arrest Warrant For Ousted President Viktor Yanukovych

President of Ukraine Viktor Yuschenko is a wanted man. They say that the president is missing. He is not in Kiev. The former president is wanted to for mass degree killings of civilians. Reporters say their were sights of him trying to board a charter plan but was turned around because he did not have documents to board the plan. Last time he was seen he had gave a speech in which he rejected the parliaments oust and vowed to fight.Former president is being replaced by  Oleksandr Turchinov.

My reaction to this is that i can not believe the president of Ukraine is wanted and has a warrant out for his arrest. I just think that makes some presidents look like hypocrites. The reason i said that is because aren't you supposed to practice what you preach. Therefore i have an changed opinion on presidents;postID=8353529090843829650;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu

Airlines Warned Of Possible Toothpaste Tube Bombs Ahead Of Olympics

The United States has warned airlines of bombs possibly being hidden in toothpaste tubes on flights to Sochi, Russia were the 2014 Winter Olympics are being held. It is thought that these bombs could either be set of on the plane to Sochi, or may be smuggled in. There have already been rumors of possible terrorist attacks that may occur during the Olympics, so they have really tightened up on security in Sochi. Secretary of State John Kerry, said "Anybody who wants to go to the Olympics should go to the Olympics, which are just a great event, should go. And we're not telling people not to go". But he also said that anyone who is going should be aware of their surroundings and needs to be careful while there.

My reaction: I think that since there have already been rumors of an attack or attacks, the airlines need to be very thorough in their searches. If a bomb can fit in a toothpaste tube, it can fit in many other small places. Therefor I think security needs to be very strict in their searches not only on the airlines, but they also need to be very careful for bombs in events.

Italian navy rescue hundreds of sub-Saharan natives

Clandestine migrants on an inflatable boat south-east of Lampedusa, 5 February

Italian natives rescue Africans that had inflatable boats. There were about eight boats when the Italian navy spotted the Africans. Some of the Africans had drown and where found on a beach in Morocco. They were trying to make an escape to the Spanish territory. About 2,000 of the African immigrants had landed on the shores of Italy about a month ago it was 10 times the number that had been recorded in January of 3. The immigrants that where rescued will were put aboard a boat that is going to the destination of Sicilian port. There they will have to be inspected to see if they are legit to claim the asylum. If not they will  be sent back to their native were they will be at risk of being killed.

Reaction: People everyday are risking their lives to seek a better life in another country. I didn't realize that people actually go through things this harsh. It made me realize that people are willing to sacrifice anything in search of a better life.

Nazis killed disabled children

Nazis killed disabled children

In Austria in the 1940s, 600 children were killed in the Am Steinh of hospited in Vienna, after Austrian Nazi doctors labeled them "worthless lives." The hospital used the remains of these children for medical research until 1978! Recently some of these victims were buried in a public ceremony in Vienna in order to remember that this happened, and to remember that Nazi horrors were committed in Austria by Austrians. Not just by Germans.

One of the people attending the burial ceremony lost his little sister. "My dear little sister Annemarie was taken to the hospital in the hope that she would get some kind of help," said Waltraud Haeupl, attending the ceremony, "My parents never found out that they had trusted their child to murderous doctors and nurses. Annemarie was poisoned at the age of 4, on Sept. 26, 1942."

Across Europe, 75,000 people, including 5,000 children were killed by the Nazis for real or imagined mental, physical or social disabilities. No one was ever punished for this.

My reaction: I knew that the Nazis killed Jews, but I did not know that they also killed other people they thought were useless, like disabled people. They also killed homosexuals and gypsies. The ceremony for the dead is good, because it reminds people that this happened and that we should not do anything like that again. Don't be a Nazi.

Mass evacuation in Indonesia as Java volcano erupts

A man wears a mask as he rides a rickshaw on a road covered with ash from Mount Kelud, in Yogyakarta, 14 February 2014
Residents wore masks to protect themselves from the dust and ash in the air

Thousands of people are evacuating their homes in Indonesia after a volcano erupted in east Java.
Mount Kelud,an active volcano in Indonesia, spewed ash and debris over a large area, including the city of Sur, about 130km (80 miles) away.
Two people died after their houses collapsed under the weight of ash, officials said. Some towns were said to be covered by 4cm (1.6 in) of ash.
Three major airports in Surabaya, Solo and Yogyakarta were forced to shut down because of low visibility.
There are also fears that debris could damage aircraft engines.
Andi Wirson, general manager at the Yogyakarta airport, said: "The current conditions are that volcanic ash is now covering the runway, apron and tarmac. We have already measured the thickness of the volcanic ash, which is at 5cm on the runway and tarmac."

My reaction:

One thing is that they had the same amount of ash as we got snow. If you wantid to you can eat the snow, but cant eat the ash. People did not wanted to leave their homes, because there are a lot of active volcanoes near there and they are used to them, also there nothing in the shelters.

Giant Jellyfish Found on Australia Beach

Giant jellyfish found on Australia beach

The jellyfish washed up in Tasmania in January 2014

This new species of giant jellyfish was found washed up on the beaches in Tasmania south of Hobart, by the Lin family. The scientists in Australia are trying to classify this new giant jellyfish. The length of the jellyfish was 1.5m (5ft). Dr Lisa-Ann Gershwin, of Australia's CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industril Research Organisation) government agency said that this is a "species I've known about for a while but it's not yet named and classified". The specimen is a "truly magnificent animal".

The species is part of the Lion's Mane group found in the North Atlantic and Arctic. The Lion's Mane can grow up to 10 feet across. The jellyfish look like a dinner plate with a mop on the bottom of it. Plus they look really raggedy.

My Reaction: This reminds me of Stormbreaker when Alex escapes from a tank with a deadly giant jellyfish in it. He uses some kind of gel to get out.

Jellyfish are really interesting. I saw a Youtube video about jellyfish. Part of it was about a fresh water jellyfish that swims upside down.
